Young Rembrandts
Student Showcase

Before & After

Before & After drawing classes illustrate the significance and impact drawing instruction has on children.

Young Rembrandts conducted demonstration classes to illustrate the effect of receiving drawing instruction has on children. Some student test groups (both pre-school and elementary children) drew faces while others drew houses. We also held a quick demonstration on coloring techniques for some elementary students.

Classes drew their Before drawing on their own, with no instruction. Then the Instructor walked the class through the After drawing with guided observation and discussion. The details of the demonstration class can be seen below.

As children participate in Young Rembrandts’ classes, they will learn how to draw and color one new image each week. While in class, they will also gain these skills:

  • Understand and draw basic shapes
  • Follow directions
  • Learn fundamental art techniques
  • Color and complete their drawings
  • Improved fine motor and handwriting skills
  • Increase their self confidence and self esteem

Look deeper to see the dramatic results of just 30 minutes of drawing instruction.

"Realizing the centrality of arts for learning is important not only for teachers and school administrators, but for parents, and for society at large. Often when budget cuts loom, a levy doesn’t pass, or a wage dispute arises, schools begin to cut out the arts. Since they are so much fun, there is an assumption that the arts are less important. However, the findings of neuroscience now allow us to defend our belief in their value. We may even see change in society at large, and see learning increase because of it."
